On Friday 19 April at 7pm, coinciding with and as part of the Book Night programme, the writer Espido Freire and the poet Miguel Gane will discuss two contemporary poets from Madrid, Carmen Jodra (1980-2019) and Pe Cas Cor (1955-1993), "who sadly died far too young, and whose accessible and heartbreaking work is still being studied", in the words of Espido Freire.

This conversation forms part of the 'Two Authors, One City’ literary series organised by the Serrería Belga (The Belgian Sawmill) Cultural Space during the months of April, May and June, with the aim of taking a fresh look at classic and contemporary writers and their relationship with the city of Madrid.

"Mysterious, elusive, their works and figures are inevitably fascinating", says Espido Freire of these two writers. Carmen Jodra studied Classical Philology at the Autonomous University of Madrid. She published two collections of poetry, 'The Sour Blackberries' (Las moras agraces) - winner of the 14th Hiperión Poetry Prize - and 'Dirty Corners’ (Rincones sucios). She left unpublished 'Book Twelve' (El libro doce), and other works of poetry and narrative.

Pedro Casariego Córdoba (who went by the name of Pe Cas Cor), was a poet and later a painter. Most of his poems were published in the collection 'Chained Poems’ (Poemas encadenados). The poet Diego Doncel said of his work: "When all the histories of literature and the terrible text books are rotting in the bargain basements of every flea market, Pedro Casariego will still be the great poet of a century that said goodbye to us with him".
